The 3 turtles!!

Ok so there are 3 turtle lined up ina line and can not move but can talk! there is NOTHING atound them NOTHING so the first turtle says: there are 2 turtles behind me, the 2nd one says there is 1 turtle in front of me and 1 behind me, but the last one says there are 2 turtles in frnt of me and 2 behind me... why did he say that? (VERY HARD)

They are on a very small planet in the middle of space, so small that they can see each other. I guess that wouldn't be a planet then, though.
